Dr. Orenstein is a fellowship-trained sport and exercise medicine physician. He completed his undergraduate degree at McGill University, majoring in anatomy and cell biology while minoring in kinesiology. He then completed both his medical school and family medicine residency training at McGill University. Dr. Orenstein is certified through the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine. He is a clinical instructor in the Department of Family Practice and the program director for the UBC Sport and Exercise Medicine Enhanced Skills program.
Dr. Orenstein has helped provide coverage for a variety of major sporting events including multiple Ironman events, IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, Rugby Sevens and ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating. He has worked as a team physician for Canada Basketball and helped cover events for Rugby Canada and Vancouver Whitecaps FC2. He is a physician for UBC Varsity Athletics and a team physician for the Vancouver Canucks.
Dr. Orenstein’s clinical practice includes management of a variety of conditions, including acute and chronic sport injuries and osteoarthritis. He is an advocate of physical activity promotion, priding himself on helping his patients improve their ability to function, regardless of their baseline.
