What We Do

UBC SEM offers allied health care services such as sports nutrition, exercise prescription and related diagnostics including ambulatory blood pressure, exercise stress testing and cardiometabolic monitoring. We support our community while maintaining an academic focus on research and education.

We offer medical care to all UBC varsity athletes. Our exclusive partnerships allow us to provide elite care to the athletes on our campus. The clinic welcomes individuals of all ability levels for musculoskeletal concerns requiring advanced treatment and rehabilitation. We also accept occupational rehabilitation cases and provide care for ICBC and WorkSafeBC patients. Read more here.

Clinic, Research and Education

Clinic services, research and education are the pillars of UBC SEM that guide everything we do. Read more below.

All Are Welcome

UBC SEM welcomes all people regardless of athletic ability. We support a wide range of individuals with their sport and exercise needs. The clinic treats patients from diverse backgrounds who require personalized prescriptions to become active and healthy, while continuing to advance the treatment and rehabilitation of athletes at all levels of competition including varsity, national and international.

If there is anything we can do to make your appointment more comfortable, please let our clinic manager know by emailing julianna.shipanoff@ubc.ca.

Our Story

The discipline of sport medicine at UBC was developed over four decades ago. Since then, the benefits of exercise, including the prevention and treatment of more than 40 common chronic health conditions, have become better understood. As such, we embed sport and exercise medicine as a core treatment to help improve patient outcomes and deliver sustainable health change.

Our vision for the UBC Sport and Exercise Medicine Clinic is to provide excellence in care, to accelerate the translation of research and to teach the next generation of learners across disciplines in service to our patients.Read more here.
