Dr. Wilkinson is a certified sports and exercise medicine physician and an assistant clinical professor in sports medicine here at UBC. He has over 35 years experience providing medical care and coverage for patients, athletes and sports events.
Currently, he is the National CMO and head of health and wellness for the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian High Performance sport. He is a founding member of Sports Cardiology BC and a member of the international rowing sports medicine/anti doping commission and FISA safeguarding working group. He is an expert advisor to the IOC medical commission and has served on the bobsleigh federation sports medicine / anti doping commissions and the International Swimming anti doping control review board. He served as the CMO for Rowing Canada for 24 years, was the team physician for both the Vancouver Canucks (1999 – 2016) and Canadian and BC senior rugby teams and has worked as a team/core physician at 13 multisport games.
Dr. Wilkinson served as the director, medical services at VANOC 2010, as a board member for both Own The Podium from 2010 to 2018 and Sports Med BC from 2004 to 2012. His clinical interests include long term athlete health, injury prevention and interventional MSK medicine.
